An organization invests time and resources to develop a solid strategic plan, but the plan fizzles because the measures used to track progress do not provide information needed to make critical management decisions.  With so much emphasis placed on creating and communicating an organization’s strategy, developing measures may become an after-thought.  Creating a set of relevant measures is key to the success of a strategic plan, but difficult to master.

Common mistakes made in measure development include:
• Measuring too many things
• Measuring the wrong things
• Measuring things that are out of your control
• Using inappropriate data simply because it is available
In short, many measures don’t measure up.

Please join members of the Deloitte Consulting Federal Strategic Planning Core Team for an interactive discussion of the five essential criteria against which all measures should be evaluated before being incorporated into a strategic plan.

During the session, we will explore the biggest mistakes organizations make in the creation and utilization of measures.  Participants will leave with a set of tools and techniques to assist them in developing and evaluating measures that provide more than just data.
